Words Are Easy
Real Talk Vol. 42
I’ve learned that words are easy.
Really easy.
People can say all kinds of things.
They can talk about the future.
Talk about goals.
Talk about what they’re going to do.
Talk about how much they care.
Talk about how committed they are.
And sometimes, they mean every word when they say it.
At least in that moment.
But life has taught me something.
What happens next matters more.
Because intentions are one thing.
Follow through is another.
I’ve watched people make promises with complete confidence.
Only for nothing to happen afterward.
No action.
No progress.
No effort.
Just another conversation.
And not every example is serious.
Sometimes it’s small.
“I’m going to get that certification.”
Then months pass.
Nothing happens.
Life gets busy.
Plans change.
It happens.
But other things carry more weight.
Like promising a trip.
Talking about birthdays.
Making plans with someone.
Getting their hopes up.
Only for there to be no dates.
No flights.
No details.
No movement.
Just words.
That’s when I started paying attention differently.
Not to what people say.
To what they consistently do.
Because eventually, everyone shows you their level of commitment.
Their level of effort.
Their level of intention.
Not through speeches.
Through action.
And once you realize that, life gets simpler.
You stop getting attached to potential.
You stop getting excited by announcements.
You stop treating every promise like a guarantee.
You just watch.
Not in a cynical way.
Just an honest one.
Because words can create a picture.
But actions tell you if it’s real.
And over time, I’ve learned to trust what people do far more than what they say.
The actions always tell the truth.
