Romanticize It Anyway

Real Talk Vol. 57

I’ve started treating ordinary days a little differently.

Not because something big happened.

But because I got tired of waiting for a “special occasion.”

Who decided the good plates only come out when company is over?

Why can’t Tuesday deserve them too?

Or Sunday.

Or a random Thursday.

Some of my favorite days are the slow ones.

The days where I don’t rush.

I’ll make myself brunch.

Pour a mimosa.

Light a candle in the middle of the afternoon just because it smells good.

Walk through a farmers market with absolutely no list.

Bake something I’ve never made before.

Buy the flowers.

Wear the perfume.

Play the playlist.

None of those things change my life.

But they change my day.

I’ve realized romanticizing your life isn’t about pretending everything is perfect.

My bills still exist.

Laundry still needs folded.

Life still gets stressful.

It’s about refusing to believe joy only belongs to vacations, birthdays, or promotions.

Joy can exist on an ordinary Sunday.

Or a Wednesday after work.

Or any random afternoon you decide deserves a little extra attention.

Life gives us enough reasons to rush.

I don’t think we need to rush ourselves too.

So use the good plates.

Order the dessert.

Buy yourself the flowers.

Take the scenic route home.

Romanticize it anyway.

Because if we’re lucky, ordinary days make up most of our lives.

They deserve to feel special too.
