Real Talk Vol. 62
They say it’s a man’s world.
Okay.
And?
Because last time I checked, women live here too.
And we have plans.
Big ones.
Some of us want to run companies.
Some want to travel the world.
Some want to raise families.
Some want to build empires, buy beautiful things, and enjoy every bit of what they’ve worked for.
And some of us want a little bit of everything.
Why not?
I think it’s interesting how often women are presented with invisible rules about what we’re supposed to want.
Be ambitious, but don’t be intimidating.
Be beautiful, but don’t be vain.
Be successful, but don’t talk about it too much.
Be independent, but don’t make anybody feel unnecessary.
At some point, somebody is going to have to get comfortable with women doing exactly what they please.
Because we have options.
We can pursue careers that excite us.
Start businesses from scratch.
Explore new places.
Learn something completely unfamiliar.
Change directions.
Take risks.
And build lives that don’t necessarily resemble the ones people imagined for us.
And yes, we can be confident about it.
We can walk into rooms knowing we belong there.
Celebrate our accomplishments without pretending they happened by accident.
Enjoy our beauty without apologizing for noticing it ourselves.
And if somebody thinks we’re a little too bold?
Well, that’s an interesting opinion.
I don’t believe womanhood should come with a list of limitations disguised as expectations.
There’s no single lifestyle, personality, career, or dream that makes someone more or less of a woman.
And there’s certainly no requirement to spend our lives proving we’re worthy of the opportunities we pursue.
We’re allowed to want more.
We’re allowed to enjoy what we already have.
We’re allowed to be seen, heard, celebrated, and successful.
Not because someone finally gave us permission.
Because those possibilities belong to us too.
So here’s to the women with big plans, expensive taste, unconventional dreams, and absolutely no interest in playing small.
The ones making moves, changing the rules, and enjoying themselves along the way.
They say it’s a man’s world.
That’s cute.
We’ll take it from here.
