Loving From a Distance Is Still Love

Real Talk Vol. 26

Sometimes loving people from a distance

is the healthiest option you have.

Not because you don’t care.

Not because you’re cold.

But because your mental health matters more than proximity.

I’m not the type to walk away easily.

I give chances.

I communicate.

I try.

But when I finally step back,

it’s not impulsive.

It’s intentional.

By the time I choose distance,

I’ve already done the emotional work.

I’ve already processed the loss.

I’ve already accepted what is

instead of hoping for what could be.

So when people try to return,

it’s never the same.

Not out of bitterness,

but because clarity changes you.

I can wish you well

without re-opening the door.

I can hope you’re happy

without inviting you back into my space.

That’s what loving from afar looks like.

It’s quiet.

It’s firm.

It’s peaceful.

And it doesn’t require explanations.

If you’re in a season where distance feels necessary,

trust yourself.

You’re not heartless.

You’re not unforgiving.

You’re protecting what it took you a long time to build.

Sometimes the most loving thing you can do

is step back

and let space do the work you couldn’t.
