Love Letter No. 009: To Water

August 15, 2026

There has always been something about water that I have never been able to explain.

Maybe it’s the way it moves without ever appearing rushed. Maybe it’s the sound of waves meeting the shore or rain tapping against the window on a quiet afternoon. Maybe it’s the feeling of standing beside something so vast that, even for a moment, my own thoughts become quieter. Whatever it is, water has always made me feel at home.

There have been seasons of my life filled with excitement, uncertainty, grief, hope, and everything in between. Somehow, water has always met me exactly where I was. It never asked me to have the answers or expected me to have life figured out. It simply existed, reminding me that not everything has to be forced.

The older I get, the more I realize I don’t seek out water because I’m trying to escape life. I seek it because it helps me return to myself. It reminds me to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and let my thoughts settle instead of racing toward the next responsibility or the next version of who I think I’m supposed to become.

There is something comforting about knowing the ocean doesn’t care what kind of week I’ve had. A lake doesn’t ask how productive I’ve been. Rain doesn’t measure my success. Water simply welcomes me as I am, and perhaps that is why I have always loved it so deeply.

Maybe that is one of the greatest gifts water has quietly given me. A reminder that not everything deserves urgency. Not everything needs to be solved today. Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is pause, trust that life will continue unfolding, and allow ourselves to move with it instead of constantly against it.

I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully explain why water means so much to me. Maybe some things aren’t meant to be explained. Maybe they’re simply meant to be experienced. All I know is that every time I find myself near the ocean, watching a sunset over a lake, or listening to rain fall outside my window, I leave feeling lighter than I arrived.

For that, I will always be grateful.

With love,

Chandler
